Mackay is a provincial City located on the Central Queensland Coast and is very accessible to the Great Barrier Reef and the charming Whitsunday Islands area, as well as a tropical rainforest backdrop at Dalrymple Heights.  Mackay's history has been based on the Sugar industry and the migrant population that worked it.

In the hinterland are the Open Cut Coal Mines, which have become a dominant feature in the economy of the area because of the high level of industry support provided through Mackay.

Often used as a winter retreat by southern tourists, Mackay enjoys it's own destination tourist market through road , air and Sea travellers.  The new Mackay Marina provides a safe haven for many a coastal traveller.
