Caroline
was born in Germany in 1964, spending her early childhood in
Sydney. Her father, a musician and yacht builder, took the family
to sea when Caroline was seven. Their years together sailing the
East coast of Australia was a singularly formative time in Caroline's
life as an artist. Caroline sailed across the Tasman in her
twenties and spent a year cruising New Zealand, before settling in
Brisbane to begin working as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist.
First
published by the Bulletin Magazine, Caroline's work appeared in
most major Australian newspapers, and several UK and USA yachting
magazines.
A long
held ambition to illustrate Children's Literature came to fruition
in 2001. The publication of her first book, 'Grandma's
Shoes' by Libby Hathorn, won that year's Crichton Award.
This is the Australian Children's Book Council's award for best
debut picture book artist. Caroline's second book, 'Sky
Boy', was short-listed for the 2002 Queensland Premier's literary
award. Caroline is currently working on picture book
projects with Allen and Unwin, and Penguin Books.
After
the birth of her daughter Jennifer, Caroline began painting in
oils, which has evolved into her current and very personal style.
"Caroline's
fine art has the unique ability to impart an emotion with brevity
and subtle impact. Drawing from life experience, the work
articulates her inner world. The uniqueness of this work has
developed a large following of collectors"
After
being viewed by U.K. based agent Chele Simpson, her paintings were
exhibited in successful U.K. shows at Birmingham, Henley on Thames
and Winchester galleries. caroline continued with sell out
